The Excelsior Academy Eagles capped off an undefeated 2014 season with a 20 – 6 victory over a fast and physical SDCC team. This year’s championship is the 8th for Excelsior Academy over the past 20 years, and ends a five year drought for the Eagles. Excelsior Academy junior, Devon B., was named MVP of the game after rushing for several touchdowns and making a key interception late in the game. The game produced outstanding play from many individuals, but, as Coach Krebbs stated after the game, “we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the effort of the entire team… no touchdown is scored without guys sacrificing their bodies to make a block.”
Just as impressive as their winning season was the exemplary sportsmanship exhibited by each player throughout the championship game. Even though it was a tough and physical game, Eagles players were helping teammates and opponents alike off the ground and picking up flags after every play.
Congratulations to the 2014 Eagles Football team!
